As a corporate citizen, YTL PowerSeraya aims to actively engage everyone in the community in environmental-related activities and empower individuals to make a difference in the way we live.
Internal Initiatives
YTL PowerSeraya has organised a series of internal initiatives over the years to raise the level of environmental awareness among our employees. In addition, they are given the opportunity to lend their volunteering efforts towards meaningful events organised regularly with external organisations and partners.
Some of the staff activities organised have included a month-long campaign on plastic bottle recycling where an estimated 250 used plastic bottles were collected and used to construct a feature wall in Greenridge Secondary School’s Energy Learning Hub sponsored by YTL PowerSeraya.
Other engaging activities such as a terrarium workshop and eco-gift competition were also held to reinforce the sustainability message.
On an on-going basis, the company has an active paper recycling and print cartridge programme where employees are encouraged to recycle used print cartridges and paper by placing them in designated recycling bins. Office resources (energy, water and paper) are also monitored on a monthly basis.
External Initiatives
REAP (Responsible Energy Advocates Programme)
YTL PowerSeraya officially launched REAP in April 2011, a sustainability programme which aims to develop tertiary students in Singapore to be energy advocates. REAP marks the first programme of its kind for an integrated energy company’s collaboration with the National Environment Agency and Southwest Community Development Council. The programme is centred on energy conservation and integrates the components of education, community service and project work to benefit students as well as the community.

One Degree Up Challenge
For three consecutive years since 2008, YTL PowerSeraya jointly organised the One Degree Up Challenge with Mapletree to mark World Environment Day in June. This initiative, which is supported by the National Environment Agency, aims to bring home the message of energy conservation to our staff as well as office tenants working in the same office building. On this day, our corporate office’s air-conditioning temperature is raised by 1 degree celsius as part of our efforts to reduce energy consumption.
Earth Hour Initiative
Since 2008, YTL PowerSeraya has started its very own Earth Hour Initiative where staff observe a one hour lights-off during lunch hour. As PowerSeraya is committed to delivering reliable and efficient energy solutions through its retail arm Seraya Energy, we saw the Earth Hour Initiative as an additional opportunity to engage and educate our customers on the topic of energy conservation. For that reason, we have also encouraged Seraya Energy customers to participate in the Earth Hour initiative.
Making Sense of Energy
In a bid to help customers achieve savings from energy consumption, YTL PowerSeraya’s retail arm Seraya Energy has gone the extra mile to introduce new features under its customer portal, SEnergy. These include real time online access to bills and consumption reports as well as easy retrieval of customised reports or graphs over a 12-month period. With such features, customers are able to better assess and monitor their energy consumption, thereby making it easier to manage their future energy consumption.
In addition, Seraya Energy provides practical energy saving tips under the portal to educate customers on simple office acts or practices that can be adopted to reduce energy consumption.
Other past initiatives have included a tie-up with United Premas to offer customers a complimentary Energy Efficiency Training Course, which covered efficiency issues in air conditioning, air handling and heat recovery systems design, as well as energy benchmarking and audits.
